What is an Aquatic Biosphere?

Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a biosphere thus:

1: the part of the world in which life can exist

2: living organisms together with their environment

 

The aquatic biosphere specifically focuses on the life that exists within, on and at the edges of water.

Our Mission & Values

The Aquatic Biosphere Society of Canada's mission is:

'To educate, inspire and empower people to play an active role in the conservation of our aquatic ecosystems.'

Goals for Sustainable Development

The Society is focused on five important and urgent global challenges that must be addressed in order to protect natural systems, protect water systems in particular and protect biodiversity, emphasize education according to the United Nations 17 Goals of Sustainable Development:

Corporate History

The Aquatic Biosphere Society of Canada incorporated as:

 

  • Federal non-profit in 2014

  • Alberta Extra-Provincial Non-Profit in 2015

  • The Society became a registered Canadian charity in 2015.

​

The legacy development was named 'The Aquatic Biosphere Project' in 2018 to better reflect the intended broad reach and impact to the region beyond the scope of just an aquarium.
